Wine & dine @ the Nati Cafe
In the middle of the year I lost my job at DPI in the government cutbacks. While working for government had it's frustrations I was pretty sad about it. I went climbing for a month and thought, 'This is great fun, I'm just going to get a part time job and go climbing again' but it didn't quite work out that way...
I'd wanted to do something involved with the Natimuk community. Steve Bell and Simon Mentz had opened the cafe a few years previous, which had filled a great niche as a meeting place and had great potential. I love eating out, good food, wine and beer, and funnily enough all the travel of my last job – with lots of dining out – had given me a lot of experience about what was on offer in Melbourne and regional Victoria. When they offered me a 6 month lease I jumped at it.
Halls Gap Heaven - investment potential!
When perseverance pays off
Simon and Meg Coutts faced off a global financial crisis, threats of bankruptcy, difficult neighbours and an indecisive council to push ahead with an 11-lot land subdivision in Victoria’s west. Incredibly, they also found time to get married and start a family.
It was late 2007 and Meg was keen for some R&R. She had just arrived at a friend’s holiday home in the picturesque valley of Halls Gap when the sound of construction sang along the breeze. Intrigued, she went to investigate.
Local skills will shine at Christmas Market
Local skills will shine at Christmas Market
The many skills of Wimmera craftspeople will again be to the fore when stallholders set up their tables for the increasingly popular Makers’ Christmas Market.
A huge range of quality homemade, home-grown or recycled items will be on sale at the market, in and around Horsham Library in McLachlan Street on December 1 from 9am to 1pm. Many will be ideal for Christmas presents for people of all ages.
